Question:
What do you think of the Peak Performance Premium area? (!)
As the main provider of information in this area, I'd like to find out what you think about the videos and the articles in particular. My aim is to provide usable and interesting information in an easy to understand format. I enjoy getting the information together - look out for interviews with top coaches Frank Dick and Tudor Bompa and swimmer Grant Hackett in the next few weeks.

In all honesty sometimes I find it a bit cumbersome to use, but I know that there's some great info lurking around in here and this makes it a bit frustrating.

Thanks for your comments. I actually share some of your views and have been talking to the web guys to improve accessibility. Improvements have been made in terms or new links, special features has now become articles for example. We also want to make the video area easier to navigate.

I agree that there is some great stuff there but I just wish you could click on subscribers area and go straight to it instead of having to click on another link to get there.
Good though.

Am really loving the format, easy to find what I want and really useful in my sports science degree. As a Taekwondo instructor, I would really like to see some martial arts related items.

Thanks for your comments, I'll look into some martial arts information and articles. It was always the aim with the majority of articles in the area to make them as easy to understand and as practical as possible (aka with simple sports science).

Martial arts specific articles would be great. If sport-specific training if more effective than general conditioning, then certainly interval training lends itself to the needs of the martial athlete.

Jim,
Thanks for your comments.
I wrote an article on peridodisation for PP a while a go and discovered some models applicable to martial arts. And the use of specific measures of performance, these involved specific physiological responses to martial arts training (I think it was Judo). This enabled specific preparation to be systematically planned. Interval training was key.
Although the tests required physiological testing you could probably come up with some more everyday ones of your own - number of kicks able to be performed in 15 seconds for example.
General training is not going to (obviously) directly improve performance. To get the greatest results you need to develop a 'sports body' that creates power, has the correct flexibility and speed, for example, for your sport. A sprinter would get little benefit from endurance running,
Not being a martial arts expert makes it difficult for me to give further comment. However, a boxing coach that I know always brings the core of his training back to the fight. So circuits exercises and agility drills, sprints and weights are performed over 'rounds' 2 - 4 min usually. This makes for very specific interval training.

If you are a subscriber to Peak Performance you get access to the Premium area of this site - see top right link on purple bar. This area has videos of exercises, workouts and even mini programmes, for example on Vibration training. There are also lots of articles - most of which have been specially commissioned. You'll find athlete and coach profiles, workouts to develop power and strength and how to create (cook!) your own nutrition programme and lots more. The philosophy is that everything in the Premium area is readily practical and designed to lift your performance.
Hope that answers your question ....

OK, I am practising triathlon since last year (I am 31 yrs old), and want to improve competition times on a good technic and health basis. Which other books do you recommend me?

Chris,
Hi, in terms of books take a look on the right hand side of the page at the PP specials there is one on Triathlon which will provide a good starting read. Triathlon in the UK has a website where you can find a coach and get details of events and clubs. I'd recommend that you take a look at this and get yourself a coach as it's much easier to cement your reading material with practical 'talk' from experts and 'being there' . Hope I don't get in trouble with PP for providing this latter info!!!
Also I edited a PP special on cycling (again on the right (the yellow book). This will tell you about hydration and how to set up your bike and most importantly how to train in the fat max zone which is crucial for eking out as much endurance as you can from your body. This should be done for all Tri disciplines.

See how you get on with this info and please come back if you need more help

Take another look and get back to us!!! I think it is nicely evolving - and as editor I do want it to be as best as it can be. What would you like to see more of?

John, I am impressed with training information I've accessed. It might be interesting to learn, however, that I find only little amounts of what I consider new info. I've subscribed to Running Research News for many years. And when I first signed up to RRNews I purchased all the back issues I had missed. I found it a rather spectacular training adjunct and used Owen Anderson as a remote coach. And a couple of weeks ago I read an article through PP with Owen as the author. But much I've read through PP has had Owen's style; not sure what his position may be with you. Owen, it seemed, left RRNews without forwarning. I kind of miss him. Please, if you can, pass on my regards to Owen - I attended his camp in Malibu and we enjoyed some Tequila together in Santa Monica. I'm considering a return to camp next summer. Anyway, PP is indeed a great benefit to my training and provides almost unlimited reference material. Be nice, though, to see more plyometric video availability. Keep up the great work, I'm hooked.

Hi,
Glad that you are enjoying the PPP members' area. Owen Anderson was a mainstay of the Peak Performance writing team for a good few years. However, he no longer contributes to PP, he stopped about 3 years ago. The material you see on our site are his past offerings - I expect that some have a passing resemblance to those he might have written for RR.
Owen certainly knows his stuff and had his own style! What distances are you training for?
Videos are a new departure for us and we have had some teething problems, but rest assured the plyometric one will be available soon.
If you have any further comments on the site or ideas for other content please let me know. Also I am thinking of developing a topic header on reader profiles .... so, if you are interested I will forward you some questions to find out more.
