Question:
I've gained weight even though I've increased my training?
I'm currently training for the Tresco marathon next April & have been training 6 times a week however I'm finding that I'm putting weight on, why is this?

Well, I'd say its a case of your increasing your muscle mass, and muscle weights more than fat, hence the rate at which the muscle tissue is increasing is greater than the rate at which the fat is being lost.
Another thing to keep an eye on is that you're not eating more than you need for the stage of your training - its easy to up the sessions and increase the amount your eating, but with more sesions you're getting tired and losing an element of the intensity in your training.
Do not stop eating though!! Big mistake - you body will start to use muscle tissue as fuel, so the weight loss starts again but you're losing what you worked hard to build up!!

I have increased my training to 6 times a week so running at least 5 & swimming at least twice. My calorie intake has increased slightly but not dramatically & I'm the same clothes size but could I have put on half a stone in 3 weeks just in muscle? I don't know the ratio's etc?

It is possible, muscle is significantly more dense than fat. it's only a little more than 2 pounds per week. Are you using supplements? Have you factored in the extra intake from sports drinks/gels/energy bars??
In addition, purely my point of view and I'm claiming no expertise, but sessions a week sounds excessive, and you're liable to end up burning out. Have you sought advice from a coach? Are you incorporating adequate rest days? Do you have an easy week ever 3 or 4 weeks built into your program??
