'm 25 yrs woman.. am I too Old to get into training?!
I am 25 yr old woman, have always been into sport since school.., always enjoyed it but being from India, never had very good resources for training(other than cricket of course) plus women and sport my times in school wasn't encouraging at all...
But now I want to change and do what I always wanted to get into adventure sports- change my profession.
There are excellent gyms and personal trainers here(international standards)
I am into krav maga and tai chi- as of now.
but I how to start proper training.....,, plz help

In greece we have phrase says "Never is late"(Never say Never). A friend of me started marathon training when he was 28.Two years later,today, his time on marathon is 2h and 45 min.Think of that,never is late for anything as long you are determind to go for it...

I agree - 25 years is still young. you talk like you are 60 or something. I am 35 years old and i am trying new training techniques all the time and a have my first half marathon tomorow. My advice; try something new, enjoy it, if it doesnt work try something else. You dont need fancy equipment, trainers and high priced gyms. There are plenty of bodyweight exercises that can be formed into a fun routine. If you want any beginner routines let me know. Skipping is a great cardio workout also.

thank you soo much for the motivating me, back here my pals and few family members dont take me or this in sporting manner
maybe coz of this reason I come off sounding very old.
My main aim is to get into the system to change it perception..
could please tell me beginners routine and how should I take care
of diet?!
I dont suffer from any health problems nor have any injuries.

Hi payall, A basic bodyweight routine should consist of exercises that encompass the most muscle action. A basic routine is listed below, you can either do the routine as a cct i.e. 10 reps of each exercise, rest 1 minute, and do it again. Or, do each exercise for a set time (usually between 30sec to 1 minute);
1. Press up (if a press up is too easy, use substitutes ie. close hand push ups or feet elevated push ups, maybe then onto explosive pushups where you need to generate enough explosive forces to allow you hands to leave the floor on the push part).
2. Squat - bodyweight squats thighs to parallel with floor ( can use a static hold in the low part of the squat for added endurance)
3. Plank - this will work your core (also use side plank)(check internet for diadram of exercise)
4. Chair/ bench dip for triceps (feet on floor then feet elevated once you are strong enough)
5. Squat to press - use any weight you can find (light though) squat with the weight, force up with the hips through the heels and then push the weight overhead in on swift movement- an excellent overall body exercise)
6. Pullups. If you have a pullup bar or beam then do pullups (feet on floor first until strength increases)
7. Press ups. Finish with pressups (but do a different exercise than number 1)
Biceps is taken care of within the pullup section.
like i said for a beginner, just aim for a set number of reps first and increase as you feel when you think it is getting easy.
Diet, this should be a lifestyle change rather than diet. Eat 6-7 small meals a day, plenty of water fresh fruit and veg. Aim to have portions of protein and carbs with little fat at each meal (ratio of carbs,protein,fat = 3:2:1)
Train hard on the execises and push yourself, keep a log of exercises, reps and duration this will give you something to motivate yourself and create harder workouts.
I have recentyl taken up crossfit training, anyone irrespective of fitness level can do this as each training session is geard to an individuals fitness level and it is always different, fun but hard. I now do sessions of about 20-30 mins long and feel as if i have worked out for hours (check it out on you tube: 'Crossfit' for some workout and exercise ideas.

Go for it girl!!!! I am 34 and only just started working out as I've applied to the Navy and need to get fit. The exercises mclarke advised are good. Most of these can be found in detail on the armed forces website (UK) and more. Have a look and print them off. Each armed force (Navy, Army, Air Force) has it's own training routines/exercises and they will show you the stretches you should do before these exercises.
It is always a good idea to stretch (hold stretch for 10seconds, do not bounce) all the muscles you are about to use. Also warm up exercises after stretching. Once exercise has finished you must finish in the way you started (Cool down). In the cool down hold stretches for 20 secs.
For an all over body workout swimming is the best exercise you can do. You have no pressure on any joints, you can decide how intense the training will be without risk of over working. If you have little confidence in the water have swimming lessons or go with a friend who can help. Only 2 weeks ago I would not swim unless I was beside the pool edge for fear of drowning, after taking tips from others (people I met at the pool, family and friends) and with daily practice I can now swim 20 x 15mtr lengths. I do this as part of my cool down routine after working out in the gym. Since doing this I've had no pain after exercise.

my age?52 years.
you should not be concerned about any special techniques for warm ups,stretching,or other excercises until the age of a minimal of 35 to 40.
if you have any doubts,be sure to consult a physician about your general health.it is good to obtain a specialized opinion about your specific capabilities.but,for general excercisees;you have nothing to be concerned about.

to answer the second question.how do you get started.the answer depends on what type of training you desire to participate in.

for speed training use squat thrusts.this technique involves placing your hands on the ground,kicking your feet back into a pushup position,performing a pushup;then going back into a standing position.usually you should do 60 of these per minute.in the marines,i had to do 3500 of these nonstop.
the training techniques are endless.without specification on the type of training,it is difficult to answer this question.

You are never too old to start training, im an athlete and a coach at my local athletics club. One of the athletes ive trained with is 67! Hes ranked in the World Masters! Give it a go!

I am 31, and did not do exercise at 24-29. Now I am in Triathlon and sure these years would help me a lot!. Go, go...
